The organization of the modern artists to gain a stronger position against the the traditional academics occurred with the founding of the "Neue Künstlervereinigung München (The New Artist Union Munich)" prompting almost all artists who would become important to join the Union. However, the elite troop of the forerunners of modern art was the "Blaue Reiter," a group that was connected with each other on an amicable basis only. It included Wassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky, Marianne von Werefkin, Franz Marc, Paul Klee, August Macke and Gabriele Münter. It was the important art movement in the years 1911 to 1914 and fundamental to Expressionism, along with Die Brücke, founded in 1905. Profusely illustrated with tipped-in color plates, many of them full page, and in-text b/w reproductions of art throughout. Text in German. Dustjacket with light wear along edges, small chips, light creasing and a couple of small closed tears at top of spine. Binding lightly rubbed. Interior with very light age-toning.
