Catalog for the exhibition "Der Stuhl (The Chair)" at the city exhibition building on the "Interim Theater Square (Interimtheaterplatz)" in September and October 1928, arranged by the State Trade Office of Württemberg under the direction of Adolf Schneck. A special exhibition of special machines for chair manufacturing running parallel to this is announced for the State Trade Museum. Adolf Schneck was the editor of "Die Baubücher."
The exhibition mainly shows models of simple, practical and comfortable chairs for the living room, the office and the garden. Chairs from mass production and those who could be considered samples for mass production were included. The chairs in the exhibition were categorized into simple and comfortable chairs, trial and special models, metal chairs, arm rest chairs, office chairs, rocking chairs, wooden folding chairs and children's chairs. A group of wicker, straw braided and garden chairs are included.
Among the exhibitors were the Bauhaus Dessau, Cassard & Cie, Paris, Daimler-Benz AG, Mies van der Rohe, the Milwaukee Chair Company, Gerrit Rietveld, Brothers Thonet, among others. The catalog is illustrated with fifteen b/w photographs of chairs exhibited and contains an introduction to the above mentioned special exhibition by R. L. Mehmke. Pages sixteen to the end contain mostly illustrated advertisements of chair manufacturers, including Wilhelm Knoll, Werkbund furniture, Thonet, Gust. Carl Lehmann, the MR Stuhl by Mies van der Rohe offered by Jos. Müller in Berlin, the Swedish Gemla Fabrikers and many others. Text in German. Minor wear. Near fine condition. Item #49030
