Original umber cloth with gilt ruling on covers, gilt lettering on spine. Gilt edges. Frontispiece albumen print (3 1/2 x 4 3/8"), with tissue guard. Travelogue of his journey up the Nile with a letter to the editor by Hopkins at front. Illustrated with nine original albumen prints depicting Egyptian people, Coptic and Muslim women, Egyptian vendors Hopkins encountered during his journey, his ship the Zingara and a hieroglyphic wall fries. Contains copies of logs for his travels from Southampton to Port Said via Gibraltar and Malta, and a day by day itinerary of the ninety-four days of travel from November 29th to March 2nd of 1877, the day his departure back to England. The itinerary of his journey back to Birmingham with various stops in Italy, Mascon, Paris and London. Binding with light wear along edges, some light scuffing and staining and rubbed. Starting lightly at inside front cover. Endpapers rubbed, recto of frontispiece with light foxing. Albumen prints fine. Good to fine condition. Item #48775
