"These photographs were made in the Mexican province of Yucatán, a peninsular which juts towards Cuba and beyond that Florida. The pictures describe locations -at Xtambú and Dzilám de Bravo- in one of the most ancient, still-functioning industrial sites in the world. Salt has been produced here since the Late Formative period of Mayan civilization, c. 300 – 50 B.C... Eduardo del Valle and Mirta Gómez have an unusual working method: "We work in a co-active collaboration. We each use identical cameras (medium format 6x7cm cameras on tripods), shoot the same locations, mix-up the film and prints so that the authorship of single photographs is unverifiable..." (Introduction). The exquisite photographs in this collection are presented in three categories: The Pit, The Edge and The Lagoon. Light wear along bottom edge of clamshell box, else in fine condition. Very good to fine condition. Item #48669
