Two issues of the original French edition of the important French artistic and literary quarterly. No. 3 with eight color lithographs entitled "Le Panthéon Indien" and one each by Marc Chagall, Joan Miro, Abraham Rattner and Paul Klee, No. 4 with eight color lithographs entitle "Tacuinum Sanitatis," three by Henri Matisse, one of them double page, and seven by André Derain on four plates. Cover designs by Pierre Bonnard (No. 3) and Georges Rouault (No. 4).
The issues are profusely illustrated with heliogravures in b/w and color (some with rich gold overprinting), photographic reproductions in color and b/w of artwork such as paintings, drawings and sculpture, as well as b/w reproductions of photographs. Text contributions by Paul Valéry, Georges Rouault, Jean-Paul Satre, Henri Michaux, Pierre Reverdy, Georges Bataille, André Siegfried, and others.
