Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929), a German-Jewish religious Existentialist, published this main philosophical work in 1921. He began his magnum opus while on active service in World War I. It begins by rejecting the traditional philosophical denial of the fear of death, maintaining instead that this fear is the beginning of the cognition of the All. Humans should fear death, despite the indifference of philosophy and its predilection.
