Color vignette on title page. Illustrated with five b/w photographs, an in-text plan of the building they took shelter and a sample of Anne's handwriting showing an extract from Wilde's "An Ideal Husband" in her notebook. Anne Frank died in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen.

"She was just thirteen years old when, in July 1942, her family, being Jews, were hidden from the Germans by Dutch friends in the sealed-off back rooms of an office building in Amsterdam. Later they were joined by others. In August of 1944, all eight people were discovered by the Gestapo and taken to concentration camps, where, with the exception of Anne's father, they perished. The diary which Anne kept, in Dutch, during the whole of their long, tense vigil had meantime been found in their ransacked hiding-place." (Publisher).
