Known for coining the term Spatialism, integration of color, sound, space, movement and time, the Argentine-Italian artist Lucio Fontana exhibited his first "Ambiente spaziale a luce nera (Spatial environment)" in 1949 at the Galleria del Naviglio in Milan. Fontana engaged in a number of collaborative projects, most notably with the architect Luciano Baldessari, who commissioned him to design the ceiling of the cinema in the Sidercomit Pavilion at the 21st Milan Fair in 1953.

The book is illustrated throughout with color and b/w photographs of Fontana's work, social and work environments. A photo album at rear, edited by Nini Ardemagni Laurini and Valeria Ernesti, shows Fontana in his studio and during numerous social events.
