Aliyat Ha-No'Ar (Youth Aliyah) Anniversary Exhibition [Unique Album of 29 Original Photographs]

Palestine: [1945]. Hardcover. Oblong octavo. 15 leaves. Decorative string-bound dark brown leather Bezalel-style binding, with embossed blind-stamped floral motifs. The front cover contains a copper relief of Rachel's tomb, which is mounted in a cut out. The image is bordered and captioned underneath in gilt lettering, in English and Hebrew. This photo album documents the exhibition held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Youth Aliyah (Aliyat Hano'ar) organization in Palestine, held from February 19th 1945. A total of 29 original b/w photographs are present, showing the various illustrated displays, posters, diagrams, charts and texts presented at the exhibition. 14 of the 15 heavy stock black paper leaves contain two mounted photographs, each measuring approx 6 1/2x 9" and tissue-guarded, one on the recto and the verso. The final leaf is blank. An additional photograph showing an introductory text honoring the achievements of the head of the organization Henrietta Szold (1860-1945) has been mounted on the interior front cover. Originally established by Recha Freier, the Youth Aliyah was responsible in its initial years for helping Jewish youth escape the Nazis in Europe and emigrate to Palestine, before and during the Holocaust. Ultimately the organization was able to rescue more than 7,000 Jewish youth. After the Holocaust it continued in its mission to help youth immigrating to Israel.
