Stuttgart: Akadem. Verlag Dr. Fr. Wedekind & Co., 1928. First edition. Softcover. Large quarto (11 1/2 x 8 1/2"). 287pp. Original gray quarter-cloth with mounted photo-illustration with white and red lettering to front cover and numerals 1929 and No. 2 screened in red over photographic cover.

Written by German modernist architects Heinz and Bodo Rasch, "Wie bauen ?" (How to Build?) was planned to become an annual edition on architecture. It became known for its radically changed concept and layout. The annual was published only twice, in 1927 and 1928. The first annual contained a foreword by Adolf Behne while the second annual triggered speculations over the publisher's choice to screen 1929 and No. 2 to the cover, concluding that it was done for commercial purposes due to the success of the first volume. This edition contains an advertisement for "Wie Bauen" Ausgabe 1929 Nr. 3 at rear, however, that volume was never published.

Lavishly illustrated throughout with b/w photographic reproductions, architectural drawings and floor plans, this book is divided into an introductory part and two main parts, featuring materials in part two and constructions for industrial architecture, including an extended part on supply sources at rear.

- The introductory part of this work contains basic information, e.g. the definition of industrial construction, architecture as form by design, the new techniques, architecture as traffic impediment, architecture and its lifetime, architecture as representation of tradition, its function, etc. - Part two elaborates on architectural material, e.g. stone, glass, clay, cement, magnesium, wood, paper, auxiliary machines, etc. - Part three introduces the variants of wall and frame construction. - Part four is a extensive and detailed resource guide for architectural material.

Contains a descriptive list of illustrations and photographs including photo credits as well as a list of companies which have contributed with descriptive essays to the volume at rear, followed by a list of companies who have placed advertisements, mostly illustrated, in the latter part, pages 273–287, of the annual.
