Volume one of Karimov's fundamental work on the history and evolution of Azerbaijani carpets in three volumes (1961–1983), classified by regions. Beautifully illustrated with Azerbaijani carpets in color and b/w on 239 plates. Contains a folding map of Azerbaijan, a folding chart and index at rear. Karimov was an Azerbaijani carpet designer. He was born in Shusha, Azerbaijan, his father was a hatter and his mother a carpet-weaver. Karimov was active in a variety of artistic fields as well as social movements. Due to his initiative the Azerbaijani Carpet Museum was established in 1967. The State Museum of Carpets and Decorative Arts was named after him in 1991. Text in Cyrillic. Binding with some wear along edges, bumped at corners, light fraying at head of spine, few paint spots on back cover and rubbed. Previous owner's name inked to verso of first title page.
