The sketches presented in this volume were written during the war, describing it and the social strain it exerted on everyday life. They were meant to be published immediately but in order to avoid the attention of censorship, a certain, masked style had to be observed which makes the book look somewhat pale today, in the days of freedom of press. This paleness was, at the time, the maximum of color an Austrian writer could dare to present in view of censorship (and its stupidity). Text in German.
