Collection of Nine Original W.W.II. Documents Pertaining to forced Labor Service of Raymond Launay

Raymond Launay was a French worker (Fremdarbeiter) in Nazi Germany. The "Service du travail obligatore (STO; Compulsory Work Service) was a forced enlistment with subsequent deportation of hundreds of thousands of French workers to Nazi Germany to work as forced labor for the German war effort during World War II.

The documents:

1. Dated March 18, 1943, this document is typed in German, certifying that the individual Raymond Launay, born July 23, 1920, is employed starting on March 11, 1943, and will be compensated with a salary of 0.75 Marks per hour. Typed on official Henschel Flugzeug-Werke A.G. (Airplane Manufacturer) letterhead with Schönefeld address and company details printed along bottom of page; signed with official Henschel stamp. (Size 5 7/8 x 8 1/4")

2. Dated March 18, 1943 and April 20, 1943. Handwritten version of above document in German. The document is signed and stamped with official city seal by the mayor of Villemomble, the place of residence of Raymond Launay. It is dated April 20, 1943. (Size 10 5/8 x 8 1/4")

3. Dated January 16th and 23rd, 1944, this document is mostly mimeographed with two lines typed. Text in French.
The first part is a reprimand of Launay for violating the order given by the Reichsmarschall of January 23, 1943, to repair damage caused by bombardments through Allied planes on January 16, 1944. Launay is therefore summoned to report for duty on January 23, 1944, to finish the task he previously avoided. The text continues explaining that if he does not follow this order charges will be brought against him by the secret police of the Gestapo for recidivism. Contains mimeographed signature "Hartmann." (Size 5 3/4 x 8 1/4")

4. Four documents including two printed sick-leave attestations for the the periods from March 28 to April 15, 1944, and October 3rd to October 10th, 1944 indicating Launay's sickness benefit allowances. The documents are signed and stamped in Wittenberg-Lutherstadt for the first, Schönefeld for the second (Both 4 1/8 x 6"). The cause of the sick-leave was pleurisy as stated in a third document, stamped and signed Dr. Med. Werner Lemke (Size 5 3/4 x 4 1/8"). The fourth document is handwritten on recto and verso stating the medical history of Launay and his release date, October 13, 1944. (Size 5 1/8 x 8") All documents in German.

5. Dated August 21, 1945, the document is a printed certificate form from the Ministry of Prisoners and Repatriation, completed in handwriting and indicating that Raymond Launay was summoned for forced labor from March 8, 1943 to May 14, 1945. It is signed by Laporte, an officer of the Ministry, with an official stamp. Text in French (* 1/4 x 5 1/4)

6. Dated May 23, 1945, this document is a "Carte de Rapatrié (Repatriation Card)" of the Republique Francais for Raymond Launay. It contains several signatures and stamps, all dated from May to November of 1945. Text in French.

Some wear but generally in good condition. Good condition. Item #47835
