Los Angeles: Sunland Publishing Company, 1925. First edition. Softcover. Thin quarto. [21 pages]. Tan printed wrappers with graphic cover and lettering in green. The first issue of the scarce Yiddish literary and cultural periodical Sunland, which claimed to be the first of its kind published on the west coast of the United States. It is believed that only six issues were ever published, from April - September, 1925. Included are a number of short prose pieces and poetry, some previously published and some original, from noted Yiddish writers including: I.L. Peretz, Mordechai Spector, Alter Eselin, Yoyel-Leib Malamut (founder and editor of the publication), Yoysef Kitz (co-editor), Shloyme Belski, and Yitzhock Fridland. Period advertisements for local Los Angeles Jewish businesses on the final pages and back cover. The interior front cover advertises the "the first concert of Jewish Music in Los Angeles", to be held April 4th, 1925. A fascinating look into the early period of Yiddish culture in Los Angeles.
Text throughout in Yiddish, with some English on the front cover and at the top of the interior front cover.
