План Жуков Сорвался, Германская Армия По-Прежнему Сильна Plan Zhukov Sorvalsya, Germanskaya Armiya Po-Prezhnemu Sil'na (Zhukov's Plan Failed, The German Army is Still Strong!)

NP: 1944. Broadside. 8 1/4 x6". Illustrated and printed tanned broadside. Two-sided, with text and illustration on the front, additional text on the verso. This German propaganda leaflet is printed in Russian, and was intended for distribution amongst members of Red Army to demoralize their troops during WWII. The front side features an image of broken chains, with accompanied text. The verso contains additional defiant text declaring the failure of Russian general Georgy Zhukov's plan to crush the German forces of the 1st Panzer Army under the command of General Hans-Valentin Hube, during the battle of Battle of the Kamenets-Podolsky pocket (March-April 1944), in Western Ukraine.

Part of the larger soviet offensive known as the Proskurov–Chernovitsy Offensive, this battle commenced as Soviet forces encircled a German force of some 220,000 men, creating a pocket, cutting them off, and trapping them behind enemy lines. After weeks of furious fighting the Germans were able to break free and escape with the help of reinforcements from the west. However, this escape came at a steep price, with Wermacht forces loosing 45,000 soldiers and nearly exhausting their supply of supplies and equipment, including most of their tanks and heavy weaponry. Additionally, the massive marshaling of forces and supplies from across Europe during this time to the aid of the trapped forces, is now seen as playing a significant role in the weakening of the strength of forces on the Western front, at at time not long before the storming of France by Allied forces, during D-Day.
