Thonet Bugholz – Traditionell

Frankenberg, Germany: Gebrüder Thonet GmbH, 1984. First edition. Softcover. Quarto. 36pp., two of them folding. Original photo-illustrated covers with with black and white lettering, protected by modern mylar; with metal loops for ring folders. More than 150 years ago Michael Thonet discovered a revolutionary means of processing wood: the bentwood technique. The realisation of his idea of bending steamed beechwood resulted in a production method which logically exploited the potential of wood as a material and which, therefore, is just as relevant today as it ever was. At the same time this marked the start of the industrial production of chairs and settees. The bentwood technique permits the design and production of chairs, armchairs and tables which are flexible and unlimited in the possibilities of form and shape. Beautifully illustrated with numerous color and b/w reproductions of photographs of chairs, benches and seating arrangements; all chairs with small technical drawings. Text in German, English and French. Fine condition. Item #47682
