This fascinating work created by Sephardic Jewish scholar Isaac de Mattathias Aboab (1631–1707) is a diverse Hebrew-Spanish (Ladino) bilingual collection of prayers, blessings and related instructions, produced for ex-converso Spanish and Portuguese Jews of the Amsterdam Sephardic community. The idea of the publication being to create a comprehensive handbook for the year's prayers, as relating to the various Jewish Holidays and festivals, to help these individuals and families as they reestablish there Jewish traditions, after centuries of persecution on the Iberian peninsula. In addition to the standard yearly prayers the book also includes a Passover Haggadah, a Jewish liturgical calendar, instructions for constructing a Mikveh, prayers for the sick, last rites, and at the end, a sections of prayers for martyrs burned at the hands of the Inquisition. Includes a detailed table of contents at the back of the book. Also includes a small engraved diagram relating to the Jewish calendar on p.50 of the final paginated section. Introduction at the front in Portuguese and Hebrew, by Benjamin Senior Godines, whose engraved frontispiece is missing from this copy.
