The text consists of four works on Sephardic Jewish history, “The Jews of Spain and Portugal" and "Noble Families Among the Sephardic Jews" both by Isaac Da Costa, and two essays on the Capadose family, one by Bertram Brewster and the other by Cecil Roth. The second essay by Da Costa, was translated from the German of its original publication in "Israel en de Volken". The final section of the book contains a total of 43 plates (not including the frontispiece) of b/w photographic reproductions of paintings, original source documents, and other historical objects relating to the text, printed on glossy paper.
Each plate has its original protective tissue guard with printed captions, providing provenance and other pertinent information. Includes historical footnotes and other scholarly references throughout the text, as well as detailed indices and other bibliographic data. Opposite p.188 is an unnumbered fold-out plate showing the Capadose family tree, measuring 16.5x20". Binding with light rubbing. Minor white sprinkles on back cover. previous owner's name inked to front free endpaper. Plates at rear partly wavy at top gutter, some three inches down, not affecting images.
