Iran has been a bridge between the Mediterranean and the Far East for millenniums and the influence of its successive dynasties have produced a variety of impressive artistic expression and style. Pottery has been one of the earliest artistic expressions of mankind and therefore the most important manifestation for historians and archaeologists, reflecting the social, economic and cultural conditions of the people. This extraordinary publication presents Iranian pottery reaching as far back as the 9th century B.C. with descriptive text on various periods and its pottery, pp. 11-27. It is illustrated with one hundred and twenty-three high quality full page color offset reproductions of exquisite Iranian pottery and croquis drawings of the artistic patterns by F. Tohidi, including descriptive text in English and Persian on facing pages. The photographs were taken by H. Shafaeieh. The publication contains a glossary, technical and notes on historic sites, a bibliography and a chronology of Iranian dynasties. There are two color maps of Iran, one with English, the other with Persian descriptors. Technical glossary at rear. Only twenty-four OCLC entries for this publication.
