U.R.S.S. Broderies Russes Tartares Arméniennes
Paris: Henri Ernst, 1925. First edition. Loose leaf. Folio. 4pp., 40 plates. Original red half-cloth over black paper-covered boards string-tied portfolio with black lettering and ruling on red label of cover. The embroideries and woven printed fabrics presented here on forty plates were exhibited at the U.S.S.R. pavilion at the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts at Paris in 1925. The samples reproduced here were supplied by ethnographic museums and almost all of them were produced in the 19th century. A few are from the 17th and 18th century and plates 26 and 27 are contemporary, produced after the establishment of the Soviet regime. The portfolio contains a descriptive introductory text with details about the production of the exhibited pieces and their origins, and a table with descriptors and location of the embroideries. The beautiful and lithographically reproduced images are pasted down to gray card stock plates with black ruling and descriptors. Text in French. Portfolio with some wear, joints of spine with closed tears of two thirds from the bottom of front, and three quarters from the top, Boards rubbed with some scratching. Two stamps "Printed in France", one on inside cover, the other at bottom of table. Some age-toning of text pages and gray card stock, images in near fine condition. g- to near fine. Item #47493
