Stark's work ended with the capture of the city by the Moslems... With the advent of the Arabs the old culture passed away, and the field again became Semitic. In this area of the city's history I had none to follow; pioneer work had to be done, the only materials available being widely scattered notices." (Author). The work covers the history from the period of foreign domination of the area from 3500–1200 B.C. until the modern city of Gaza, and includes chapters on cults and deities, the calendar, inscriptions, antiquities, coins, games, industries, and trade routes.
