Second edition with notes, corrections and additions by Rev. G. U. Pope. Translated from the French manuscript. Extensive work on the Indian culture by French missionary J. A. Dubois. Though he was unsuccessful in converting Indian people to Christianity, he was well respected by the Indian people due to his willingness to adapt to the Indian way of life, clothing, food, and language. He was addressed by the locals as Dodda Swami. He authored this extensive book on Hindu manners, etc. after his return to France. Advertisement of publisher's books on inside back cover.
