Wir mahnen zum Frieden (We Urge For Peace) [COMPLETE]

Berlin: VVN-Verlag, 1949. First edition. Softcover. Octavo. 64 leaves. Original photo-illustrated green wraps with white, green and red lettering on cover, with publisher's device in red, protected by modern mylar. Tear-off-calendar depicting photographs of victims of the Nazi Regime who were killed in concentration camps, including Klaus Bonhoeffer, Ernst Thälmann, Bernhard Lichtenberg, among others. The calendar also features prominent members of the resistance as well as work of artist opposed to the regime, e.g. Käthe Kollwitz, memorials erected to commemorate the Nazi terror, and documents demonstrating the brutality of the Nazis. The VVN-Verlag was an East German publisher with Hanna and Erich Klückmann, a married couple, as editors and driving forces of the publishing house, dedicated to document the memory of the victims of the Nazi-Regime. Due to the lack of experience, the publishing house was not effective and was abandoned by the East German political leadership (SED) in 1953. Last leaf with advertisement of new publication of the VVN-Verlag. Rare complete copy of this calendar. Text in German. Light wear along edges of cover, small chips at corners and light creasing. Calendar leaves lightly age-toned. Very good condition. Item #46967
