Einleitung in ein Aegyptisch-Semitisch-Indoeuropaeisches Wurzelwörterbuch (Introduction to a Egyptian-Semitic-Indo-European Dictionary)

Leipzig: Verlag von Wilhelm Friedrich, 1886. First edition Ex Library. Hardcover. Quarto. x, 393 (1)pp., 120pp. index. Bound in bright red buckram with white lettering on spine, retaining the original light brown wraps. Publisher's device on title page. The author concedes in his foreword that a publication of this kind runs danger to be rejected from two sides. 'Not only are the early Egyptian attempts to establish similarities between Semitic and Indo-European etymology disregarded, but also the ventures of Semitic linguists, to approach the Indo-European scholars were met with distrust, and eventually rejected. Therefore this work has to stand on its own. It shall only be noted, that the proof is based on Egyptian phonetics and root change theory, as illustrated in its principal points in section three.' (Author). Explanatory text in German and English, dictionary in Hieroglyphs and Indo-European languages. Usual library markings, barcode on cover, sticker on spine, library plate on inside front, and index card on inside back cover. Library stamps at top and bottom edges, verso of title page and end of text pages. Block lightly age-toned. Very good condition. Item #46943
