Oblong Quarto. More than 310 Original Photographs (4 1/8 x 3 1/4"), placed onto slotted light gray card stock, recto and verso, bound in textured green cloth with gilt-stamped monogram on cover. Gray endpapers.
The picture story of bourgeois young ladies during their education in Switzerland, and their travels before World War I.
The first album contains portrait and group photographs, the room of the photographer, the Strasbourg Cathedral, Castle Chillon, Creux du Van, chalets, the Roc de la Vache, etc. The latter part of the album show urban environments (Leipzig), featuring family photos and various activities. One photo with handwritten notes on verso.
The second album with handwritten header "Geneva 1910" and mostly French captions, some in German. Featuring travels to various regions in France and Switzerland. Captions like "Villa Beauregard" or "Martina Bally" (possibly the painter Martina Bally (she studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin, 1922–1925, and later lived in Paris and Zürich), Annie van Wulften Palthe and Henriette Klamroth, among other. There are pictures of the "Oberhof 1910" and the "Dackelbund" (Four young ladies), the Leipziger "Märchenfest im Palmengarten," mountain hikes, tennis games, skating, horseback riding, the eclipse of the sun in 1912. Other photos depict the airport Leipzig-Lindenthal, Castle and Park Olivia, Venice, a honeymoon in Rome, Monte Carlo, and Wiesbaden, followed by drill grounds of the German Empire, Zeppelins and aircraft over the city, and private occasions, ending with vacation photos and of stately houses.
Photographer and owner of the albums are not identified. Light wear along edges of second album. Few partly loose photographs and other minor wear. vg. Item #46639
