A fascinating collection of breathtaking views of Moscow at the end of the 19th century. The original photographs depict mainly views of major architectural monuments (the Dormition Cathedral, the Triumphal Arch, the Nikolsky Gate, the City Hall, the Iberian Gate, the Czar's Palace, Peter's Palace, the Kremlin Towers, the Kremlin, Nicholas Palace, St. Basil's Cathedral, the Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer, the Red Square, the Red Porch (or Red Staircase), the Red Gate, the Borovitsky Gate, Ivan the Great Tower, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Alexander Palace, the State Historical Museum, etc..) but also include street scenes and a few genre subjects (the Moskva River, the Czar Bell, the Pushkin statue, the Czar Cannon, Alexander Garden, etc..).
Each albumen print measures approx. 8 1/4 x 11", and is mounted onto a 13 x 18" decorative-framed heavy cardstock. At bottom of each cardstock is a contemporary handwritten caption in German.
Portfolio rubbed along edges, with head and tail partly chipped. Some closed tears and minor abbrasion to inside of flaps. Minor and sporadic age-toning / foxing along edges of plates. Blind-stamped title in Russian, captions in German. Portolio in overall good- to good, interior in very good condition. g to vg. Item #46624
