This Deluxe edition of André Suarès' "Hélène chez Archimède" contains 22 original woodcuts (20 full-page and 2 hors-texts) engraved by Georges Aubert after drawings by Pablo Picasso (Aubert also engraved Picasso's etchings for ”Le Chef-d'Oeuvre Inconnu”).
Our copy has a suite of 21 woodcuts printed on light blue stock housed in a separate paper folder in original slipcase, and an additional suite of 21 full-page woodcuts printed on cream stock, also in a separate paper folder inserted in the original slipcase.
Picasso produced the drawings in 1925 on Vollard's request to illustrate the play by André Suarès, but the project got postponed until 1955.
Each plates measures 17 x 12 3/4" No. VII of ten special copies with two suites, with double sequence of illustrations, one on bluish, the other on fawn paper. Part of the limited edition of 100 copies numbered in Roman numerals.
Slipcase of text volume slightly age-toned, with minor and sporadic abrasion. Text in French. Glassine, wrappers and chemises in very good condition, slipcases in good+ to very good condition. vg. Item #46587
