The Old Syriac Element in the Text of Codex Bezae

London: Macmillan and Co., 1893. First edition Ex-Library. Hardcover. Small Quarto. xvi, 160, 17 (1)pp. Original brown cloth with blind-stamped ruling on covers, gilt lettering and ruling on spine. Green endpapers. Publisher's device on verso of half-title. "When I read Mr. Rendel Harris' book I was struck with the fact that several of the phenomena of the MS, to which he drew attention, could be explained by Syriac, just as easily as by Latin, influence; and I was led to believe that Syriac influence must have played some part in the genesis of the Bezan text. The only satisfactory way of investigating the text of the MS, was, it seemed to me, minutely to examine some section large enough to guarantee that no characteristic feature of the text would be left unnoted." (Author). Syriac manuscript of the 5th century New Testament text. Appendix, index and 18 pages of a catalog of theological works published by Macmillan at rear. Text in English with some Syriac. Light wear along edges of binding, small chips and closed tears. Usual library markings, sticker at spine, stamps at top and bottom edges, and dedication page. Blind-stamped at title and dedication page. Library bookplate at inside front, index card and sticker on inside back cover. Small dealer sticker here. Small chips on front free endpaper and previous owner's name inked to half-title. Binding in overall good+, interior in very good condition. g+ to vg. Item #46386
