"The present edition of the Digest has been prepared in pursuance of a resolution adopted March 1, 1841,... Excepting a few alterations in the arrangement, the present edition is merely a continuation of the Digest published in 1833, and prepared by Eli K. Price, Esq., then solicitor of the Corporation. Of course, many of the laws and ordinances in that edition, have been repealed or superseded by subsequent enactments; and two of three articles, as, for instance, the law in relation to the registry of births, &, have been omitted as unnecessary in a work of this kind. it has been requisite to add some titles, in order to bring the recent laws in reference to bridges, rail roads, &., under appropriate heads.""
