The 143 plates illustrate the growth of the skeletal structures of the rats (Long-Evans Strain) in this experiment depicted by X-Ray reproductions and b/w photographs on glossy heavy cardboard plates. Each plate depicts up to nine images. "After several years of experience with this strain, a diet was evolved which was most favorable for a general growth, known as Diet XIV." (Introduction).
