Numbered by hand 108/300. Quarto. xxxv, (1) 65 plates , xiii, (1) page, (1) 78 plates. The plates are protected by tissue guards. Original black pebbled leather with gilt lettering and ruling on spine. With introduction by the authors, a bibliography and four tables in volume I, five tables in volume II.

Extensive research project supported by research grants from the regents of the University of California, grant no. RG800, the U.S. Public Health Service, the California State Dental Association and the American Foundation for Medical-Dental Science. The 143 plates illustrate the growth of the skeletal structures of the rats (Long-Evans Strain) in this experiment depicted by X-Ray reproductions and b/w photographs on glossy heavy cardboard plates. Each plate depicts up to nine images. "After several years of experience with this strain, a diet was evolved which was most favorable for a general growth, known as Diet XIV." (Introduction).

Binding of volume one with minor wear, volume two with some light scuffing at front joint and spine and minor closed tears at tail of spine. Light browning along edges of inside covers.
