Spines with gilt ruling and lettering on green labels, with raised bands. Marbled edges of book blocks. Engraved frontispiece folding maps in both volumes.

As stated in the preface, this religiously-minded travelogue "was undertaken at the desire of the Committee of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for the Conversion of the Jews. The writers had only one objective in view during their journey, namely, to see the real condition and character of God's ancient people, and to observe whatever might contribute to interest others in their cause". Illustrated throughout with b/w in-text and full page steel plate engravings, including a full page topographical map of Jerusalem by J. Gellatly (vol.1). Extensive tables of contents, index of biblical passages referenced, and list of engravings in each volume.

Bindings with some rubbing and/or bumping to extremities. Spines lightly sunned with some scratches and/or some small stains. Covers lightly scratched. Interiors with starting at the gutter of the interior front covers. Vol. 1 with a small closed tear at the top of the title page, and a modern inscription in ink to a previous owner on the front free endpaper. Book block and bindings tight overall.
