Two German KDF Souvenir Photo Albums, "Oceana" [AND] "Monte Sarmiento" [CONTAINING A TOTAL OF 72 ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS]

NP, ca. late 1930s. Hardcover. 48mos. Illustrated grey cloth boards. These photo albums documents two different German KDF trips during the Third Reich. One is a cruise to Norway on the "Oceana" ship and other seems to have been another cruise on the "Monte Sarmiento" cruise ship, however the photos only depict Hamburg. Both probably were taken during the second half of the 1930s. The albums' photographs seem to be a mix of personal shots and more professional images.

The "Oceana" album is comprised of 24 double-sided windowed leaves containing a total of 46 original 2.5x3.5" b/w photographs. The images display Norwegian landscapes (including Fjords, and the city of Bergen), interiors and exteriors of the ship, passengers, the ship's crew and some military officers socializing. Some of the images have printed and numbered captions in German underneath. An additional double-sided final leaf is empty.

The "Monte Sarmiento" album is comprised of 13 double double-sided windowed leaves containing a total of 26 original 2.5x3.5" b/w photographs. The images display evocative views of the prewar the cityscape of Hamburg, including the harbor, the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (railway station), the Kontorhausviertel area (including Chilehaus and Sprinkenhof), the Mönckebergstraße, the Jungfernstieg, Uhlenhorster Fährhaus (Uhlenhorster Ferry house), the city hall, the birthplace of composer Johannes Brahms, Old Town (Hamburg-Altstadt), Tierpark Hagenbeck (Hamburg Zoo) and many other locations. These images provide great photo-documentation of city and buildings that were partially or completely destroyed in the allied bombing of 1943. Many of the images have printed and numbered captions in German underneath. 11 additional double-sided leaves at the end of the album are empty.

Bindings with minor rubbing and stains/smudges to the cloth. "Monte Sarmiento" album with some rubbing and light fraying along the front hinge of the spine. Interior front covers with minor age toning. Bindings in very good- to very good, interiors in near fine condition overall. vg- to near fine. Item #45653
