Untitled (Chile #21) [SIGNED]

1967. Original photograph. 5 x 5 1/4". Mounted on heavy cardstock. This untitled b/w photograph (most likely depicting three generations of a family), shows a young boy, a middle-aged man and an old woman standing together. It is one from a series of images taken by American photographer Milton Rogovin during his one month-long trip to southern Chile in 1967. A caption in pencil underneath the bottom right corner of the image is signed "Milton Rogovin, 67".

After a correspondence between Rogovin and acclaimed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, the photographer embarked on a trip to Chile with Neruda as an advisor and guide. This image and many others were ultimately featured in the book "Windows That Open Inward: Images of Chile", originally published in 1985 (reprinted 1999), which included an introduction by Neruda. The back of the cardboard contains a dated and signed inscription from Rogovin's son Mark (dated 15/74).

*According to Milton Rogovin's website, the photo is "photo ID: Chile_021"
