Original light blue portfolio with blue lettering and publisher's device on cover, protected by modern mylar. Title page printed in red and black with additional lithograph (8 1/2 x 5 3/4") and publisher's device. The motifs vary from 8 x 12" to 6 x 11" in size, rendering cityscapes of Vitebsk, Welisk (Velikiye Luki), Polotsk, Nevel, and Golensk, depicting intact and ruinous parts of the cities during the German Russia campaign.
The lithographs are rendered with great skill and convey striking impression of the beauty of the cities encountered on one hand, and the brutal and destructive forces of war on the other. The lithographs are signed in the plates with ink in various ways: Gr. Newel 1943, GR (PK) Golensk 1943, (PK697) Gr. 43 (Welish), Polozk 1943 (GR PK), and two of the lithographs reference place and time only, Newel 1943, Welish 1943.
Text in German. Portfolio with light wear and lightly sunned along edges. A couple of small smudges on front cover. Light creasing of title page at upper foredge and small crease at bottom right corner. Portfolio in overall good+, interior in near fine condition. g+ to vg. Item #44674
