Original gray dustjackets with brown lettering on spine, over tan cloth with brown lettering on cover and spine, housed in matching gray cardboard slipcases with brown lettering on spine. Beveled edges. Red top edges. Textured brown endpapers. Title printed to light yellow square. "A Chronicle of the Firm, and of the Artists and their Work, with Notes on Collecting; Reproductions of 142 of the Prints and Originals, Forming a Pictorial Record of American Life and Manners in the Last Century; and a Checklist of All known Prints Published by N. Currier and Currier & Ives." Volume one contains eleven, volume two twenty-four prints in color. Designed by Ernst Reichl, set in Antique No. 1 and printed on specially made paper by The Van Rees Press, New York; plates are made and printed by Zeese-Wilkinson Company, Long Island City. Slipcases with some wear along edges, cracked at head, tail and joints of spine of volume one; volume two with two inch crack at bottom foredge and a one inch strip of spine loosened top to bottom next to back joint of spine. Dustjacket of volume one with two by half an inch chip at top of front cover, with a couple of small chips left of it and at spine, and a few small chips at back cover near spine. Three bookplates, Estelle, Edward Laurence and Carrie Estelle Doheny on inside front cover and front free endpaper of volume one, a bookplate of Estelle Doheny on inside front cover of volume two. Blocks slightly age-toned, not affecting images. Slipcases in overall good-, dustjackets in good, volume two in very good, bindings and interior in very good condition. g- to vg. Item #44558
