Illustrated with twenty-four pasted down photographs, one woodcut and eight lithographs of fictile ivories. "The object of this volume is twofold; firstly, to give descriptions of the collection of fictile ivories, numbering nearly a thousand, in the South Kensington Museum; and, secondly, to give an account of the Continental collections of classical and mediaeval ivories, in order to direct attention to the specimens of which it would be desirable to obtain fictile copies for the Museum."
