Charles James Turrell (1846–1932) began painting miniatures at the age of nineteen. During his long and successful career he painted European royalty and other notables. Six of his portraits depicting British Royal family members are in the collection of Her Majesty the Queen. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Society of Miniatures, and private galleries in New York and London.
