Grand Panorama of London and the River Thames. 18 Feet in Length [HAND-COLORED]

London: Sold by Azulay, Thames Tunnel, [1849]. First edition. Softcover. 6" x 18 feet. Original olive printed cover.

Mounted on a wood core, this striking hand-colored engraved panorama of London and the River Thames was first issued by "The Illustrated London News" in 1843, and later extended.

From the Western Stone Wharf to the Royal Victualling Office, this panorama represents a continuous view of the river as well as the various landmarks (monuments, bridges, churches, etc..) flanking it. Wood engraving by Smyth [Abbey Life 568], on 2 sheets, joined, and mounted on a wooden roll.

This is the longest version, with a timber wharf inserted to obscure the unbuilt portion of Hungerford Bridge.

Age-toning to front cover. Sporadic and minor closed tears along edges of panorama (not affecting the image). Front cover and panorama in overall good to very good condition. g to vg. Item #44190

Price: $1,500.00
