Splendidly illustrated with 115 photogravures in 105 plates, this work features the magnificent bronze artworks from the 5th century BC to the 18th century AD contained in the collection of Camillo Castiglioni (1879-1957), an Italian-Austrian financier and banker, who was the wealthiest man in Central Europe during World War I. Nicknamed “Austrian Stinnes”, he was active in aviation's pioneering days and invested in the arts.

The artworks were executed by some of the world's most important artists, such as: Riccio (Andrea Briosco), Francesco da Sant'Agata, Francesco da San Gallo, Danese Cataneo, Alessandro Vittoria, Girolamo Campagna, Tiziano Aspetti, Nicolò Roccatagliata, Leone Leoni, Pierino da Vinci, Giambologna (Jean de Boulogne), Francesco Susini, Pietro Francavilla, Clodion (Claude Michel), etc..

Each plate has its captioned tissue-guard.
