Protective Pass for Enyedy Laszlo from the Apostolic Nunciature in Budapest

Budapest: 1944. A two-page document in Russian and Hungarian, measuring approximately 12x8.5". The typed document was issued as a letter of protection for Laszlo, on November 14, 1944, and signed by Monsignor Angelo Rotta, of the Apostolic Nunciature in Budapest. Also included is the stamp and and signature of the official Hungarian-Russian translator. The First page is mostly in Russian, with the second being the same information in Hungarian. As Papal Nuncio, first in Bulgaria and then in Hungary, Rotta saved thousands of Jews by issuing letters of protection such as this, and putting up safe houses. Many years later he was recognized as "Righteous Among the Nations", by the government of Israel. Bears blue stamp of the Apostolic Nunciature and signed by Monsignor Rotta. Text in Russian and Hungarian. Contains folding marks, and a string tied through holes on the left side of the document. Minor rubbing creasing and light chipping to the edges of pages.
