Frontispiece heliogravure with tissue guard. Makart was an Austrian painter, designer and decorator, best known for his influence on Gustav Klimt. Makart was considered a celebrity in the high cultural circles of Vienna. Makart was referred to as "the magician of colors" and his work coined the term "Makart Style," which in turn determined the style of an entire era in Vienna. The heliogravure of Makart is by V. Angerer with a facsimile signature of Makart. Contains anonymous text of Makart and catalog, with historiated headpiece, of 89 exhibited works by Makart. The exhibition was curated one year after Makart's death in 1884. Text in German. Wraps slightly rubbed. Light foxing of tissue guard and margins of heliogravure, not affecting image.
