Photo-illustrated frontispiece. The publication is a detailed historical analysis of the attempts by Karl Max, Prince Lichnowsky to persuade the German government to avoid involvement with the military entanglements which ultimately lead to the outbreak of WWI. The Prince who was serving at the time as German ambassador to Great Britain during the July Crisis, sent a series of cables to the German government and Kaiser Wilhelm II, imploring them not to get involved in the Austro-Serbian conflict, correctly predicting that it would lead to a catastrophic world war. During the war he continued to blame the German government in their failings to prevent the war, and publisher materials on the subject. Wrappers with some rubbing, light chipping to covers and extremities, as well as some staining along the bottom edge. A small red mark in pencil on the front cover. Sunning along edges. Interior with staining along the bottom edge of pages throughout. Starting at a few pages. Book block loosening. Wrappers in good-, interior in good+ to very good- condition overall. g- to vg-.
