First American edition of Joseph François Michaud's monumental work on the history of the Crusades.
The first volume provides a detailed account of the First, the Second, and the Third Crusade (AD 300-1192), while volume 2 covers the Fourth through the Seventh Crusade, and takes from the time of Richard II (where volume I left off) up through Louis IX's first crusade and his stay in Palestine (1195-1255). The third and last volume covers the Eighth Crusade (1255-1270), and subsequent crusades against the Ottomans (1255-1685).
Each volume is complete with its frontispiece folded map showing Asia Minor at the time of the Crusades (Vol. 1), the theatre of the war during the Crusades in the Northern part of Egypt (Vol. 2), and the Christian States in Asia formed by the Latins during the Crusades (Vol. 3).
Some rubbing along edges of bindings with sporadic abrasion to marbled paper covered boards. Ex-library copy with bookplate on inside of each front cover, pocket at rear, and stamp at upper and lower paper edges. Clear water-staining at lower margin of pages (more visible in second volume).
