Organized by the Cultural Council of Baden-Baden in cooperation with the Cultural association for Democratic Renewal, Berlin, Freiburg Museums, the publisher Woldemar Klein, and Michel Francois, director of fine art in public education for the French Military Government. Special thanks go out to the private collectors, especially messieurs Borst and Beck, Stuttgart, City Museum Mannheim and the State Art Museum in Karlsruhe. The catalog of one of the early postwar exhibitions in Germany includes artists Ernst Barlach, Willi Baumeister, Max Beckmann, Heinrich Campendonk, Otto Dix, Lionel Feininger, H.A.P. Grieshaber, Karl Hartung, Erich Heckel, Carl Hofer, Alexei von Jawlensky, Max Kaus, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Paul Klee, Käthe Kollwitz, Alfred Kubin, Wilhelm Lehmbruck, August Macke, Franz Marc, Paula Modersohn-Becker, Otto Mueller, Ernst Nay, Max Pechstein, Hans Richter, Oskar Schlemmer, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Heinz Trökes, and is illustrated with 32 plates of b/w reproductions of artwork. An exhibition representing the reawakening of German culture after the Third Reich with many of the artist deemed "degenerate" during the Hitler reign represented with their work.
