Bremerhaven: Kraft Durch Freude, 1939. Softcover. Octavo. 7 four page programs. Illustrated wraps with colored steamers, swastika and gray lettering on cover. Daily programs covering a seven day cruise for members of the German association "Kraft durch Freude" to Norway. The first welcoming the passengers aboard in the name of the captain Claus Stehncken and crew as well as the tour guide Kurt Sonnewald. Each program contains daily schedule with lectures and entertainment, e.g. spa concerts and dances, a flag parade, viewing of the navigation bridge, lectures on Norwegian fjords and the Skagerrak, raffles, masquerades, and a news broadcast everyday at 8 p.m.. All but the first program, Kraft durch Freude, are title Die Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Labor Front) on the cover. Two of the programs feature the swastika on the cover, one of them on page two. The back covers contain various infos: a list of the crew by name, details of the steamer, the task of pilots, details about the consumption of groceries during the cruise, and an overview of customs regulations on the last program, respectively the handling of lost property. Text in German. Program of the second day with staining at the top throughout. All others with minor wear. Set in overall very good condition. vg. Item #43647

Kraft durch Freude (Strength Through Joy) was a state-operated leisure organization in Nazi-Germany with headquarters in Berlin. The founding was announced by the press on November 28, 1933. It was used as an organ to control and synchronize the population. The organization was a subdivision of the German Labor Front with the goal to introduce a healthy and moral way of life and thereby stimulate the economic production of Germany. Most of its activities were suspended after the start of W.W.II.
