New York: John Martin's House/ American Seal-Kap Corporation, ca. 1931. First edition. Softcover. Small quarto. 9.5x7". Unpaginated, 12 pages. Illustrated orange, black, and white stapled wrapper, with black lettering on the front and back covers. Pages printed on heavy stock paper. The work is a delightfully illustrated publication for children with puzzles, games, coloring and crafts. The publisher "John Martin's House" was known for producing and publishing the popular children's magazine "John Martin's Book", which ran from 1912-1933, and featured similar types of material. Among the most prolific contributors to the magazine was illustrator George Carlson, who is responsible for much of the illustrations in this publication, although uncredited. This work was produced for the American Seal Kap Corporation of Delaware and features the themes of milk bottle caps. Specifically advertised on the back cover is their "Seal-Kaps" for milk bottles, and how to use them. Images include milk bottles, caps and related imagery as well as teddy bears, bunny rabbits, and other animals.
Wrappers with some chipping, rubbing and creasing to the corners. Light rubbing along the spine. Interior with age toning to pages and some chipping to the corners. Images overall clean and bright. George Leonard Carlson (1887–1962), was an illustrator and artist with numerous completed works, perhaps the most most notably for the dust jacket for Gone with the Wind. He is cited by writer Harlan Ellison as a "cartoonist of the absurd, on a par with Winsor McCay, Geo. McManus, Rube Goldberg or Bill Holman."
