同志 Doshi (Comerade)
東京 (Tokyo): (南蛮書房) Nanban Shobo, 1929. First edition, first printing. Softcover. Small octavo. 286pp. [4]. Illustrated white and grey wrappers, with red and black lettering on the front cover and the spine. The work is a collection of eight works of proletarian literature by the leftist writer Seikichi Fujimori. The cover artwork and title page illustration are by artist, writer and theater director Tomoyoshi Murayama. The cover is illustrated with revolutionary imagery including bayonettes, raised arms and the hammer & sickle. The title page shows silhouette images of a proletarian audience with rasied arms, viewing a modernist staging of a theatre production. The illustration is signed "tom" in the plate. The back of the book contains three pages of publisher's advertisements, with a red seal pasted on. Included in the collection of short stories and plays, are the works:

Wrappers with light foxing, smudges and stains. Light rubbing to corners. Spine slightly cocked, with some cracking and rubbing to the hinges. Interior with sporadic minor water stains throughout. Wrappers in good, interior in good+ condition overall. Protected by modern mylar. g to g+. Item #43411
*藤森成吉 Seikichi Fujimori (1892-1977) was a prominent Japanese leftist writer of the 1920s and 30s. In 1926 Seikichi Fujimori’s play, Haritsuke Mozaemon 磔茂左衛門 was chosen by Murayama’s left-wing theater (directed by Murayama) as its premiere performance but the police shut down the production permanently.
