Small Folio. 211 (1)pp. Original illustrated dustjacket, black lettering on cover and spine, over orange faux leather with black lettering on cover and spine. Illustrated endpapers. The former director of the Lübeck Museum recommended Nay for a working grant to visit the Lofoten Islands in 1937, financed by Edvard Munch. Nay's watercolors "Fischer- and Lofoten Bilder," are considered to be his first major achievement. However, two of his pictures were included in the notorious exhibition of "Degenerate Art" in Munich. Nay was forbidden to paint, exhibit and even to buy paint. Heise had been relieved of his position in Lübeck in 1934. He became director of the Hamburg Kunsthalle in 1946. The catalog is illustrated with 93 color and b/w offset reproductions of Nay's woodcuts, lithographs and aquatints and includes a number of artist prints. Laid in small errata slip. Nay bio and list of museums with his work at rear. Text in German. Dustjacket with minor wear along edges but spine with light fraying at head and tail and small chip in middle, lightly rubbed. Binding with bump at tail of spine. DJ in overall good+, binding and interior in very good condition. g+ to vg. Item #43288
