Black buckram boards with gilt lettering on the spine. Edge of book block marbled. The work is an in depth firsthand account of the British military operations in Egypt during the Anglo-Egyptian War of 1882. Included is a large section of 78 plates featuring numerous detailed maps, architectural plans, schematics, and measured drawings of battlefields, fortifications, military equipment and naval vessels, as well as a large number of b/w photogravures. Some plates fold out to as large as 43x9". The first plate is located opposite p.32, with the rest labeled consecutively #2-78 at the back. Addition illustrated figures, tables and charts throughout the text section as well.

Binding with some light scratches and smudges to the covers. Minor rubbing to extremities, with top of the front hinge of the spine lightly rubbed. Ex-library copy, with ink stamps of the pervious owners at the interior front cover. Title page with with some sunning creasing and light smudges. Title page and table of contents have a small chip along the bottom of the pages. Minor sporadic smudges and/or water stains throughout. Light sunning to some of the plates. Images mostly unaffected. As a result of binding errors when being rebound, there are a number of plates that are loose, misbound, or out of order. Plate #23 is detached but present, an unidetified plate has been bound between #24 and #25, #32 is disbound and split, #36 is positions between #46 and #47, and there is an unidetified plate between #37 and #38. Caspar Frederick Goodrich (1847-1925) was an admiral in the United States Navy. His career spanned 50 years and included serving in the Spanish-American War and WWI.
