NP: NP, 1930s. Hardcover. Quarto. 50 leaves. Original brown quarter cloth over decorative paper-covered boards with floral illustration and black and gilt lettering on cover, protected by modern mylar. Illustrated front end paper. Collection of 200 photographic postcards and 6 photographs of actors and actresses from the silent movie era as well as the theatre and the majority from the talkies tipped into the album on stiff decorative leaves. 25 of the photographs are silver gelatin prints, some 20 photogravure and the bulk of the collection sepia-toned. Eight of the postcards are signed by Arthur Krausneck, Johann Baptist Hoffmann, Harry Gondi, Ivan Petrovich, Evelyn Holt, Anita Dorris, Mady Christians, and Ulrich von der Trenck.

The photos are credited to a number of photographers, respectively photo studios, e.g. Atelier Gerstenberg, Nicola Perscheid (he developed soft focus lens named after him), Nero-Film, Studio Manuel Frères, Atelier Harren, Atelier Kiesel, Alex Binder, Becker & Maaß, Folwang-Archiv, Atelier Jacobi, Atelier Balazs, Atelier Schrecker, Associated British Film Association, First National, Atelier Schlosser & Weinisch, Atelier Hanni Schwarz, Atelier Marion, Photo Jaeger, Photo Willinger, Atelier Elli Cahn, G-Film, Eichberg-Film, Photo H. Guätner, H. L. Held, Zander & Labisch, V. E. Bieber, Hofphotograph, and Photo Studio Harlip courtesy of various film sutdios, e.g. UFA, Paramount, United Artists, Metro Goldwyn Meyer, Boston-Film, Fox, Universal, Siegel-Monopolfilm, Fanal-Europa, Degeto Film, Hegewald-Film, EMELKA, Terra-United-Artists, Oswald-Film, Ariel-Film, Terra-Film, and Decla-Ufa-Film. A number of the photographs do not credit the photographer or the film studio.

The majority of the postcards are published by the Ross Verlag. Other publishers credited are Verlag Herm. Among the silent movie stars are Dolores Costello, Clara Bow, Dorothea Wieck, Anita Dorris, Liane Haid, Vilma von Mayburg and others. Stars from the talkies include Mady Christians (starred in the first full sound film made in Germany "It's You I Have Loved"), Greta Garbo, Lil Dagover, Janet Gaynor, Lilian Harvey, Brigitte Helm, Jenny Jugo, Paula Wessely, Henny Porten, Leni Riefenstahl, Pola Negri, Camilla Horn, Marion Davies, Anna May Wong, Mary Pickford, Anny Ondra, Sophie Wachner, John Barrymore, Emil Jannings, Douglas Fairbanks, Gustaf Gründgens, Rudolph Valentino, Ramon Navarro, Conrad Veidt, Harry Piel, Hans Albers, Heinz Rühmann, Willy Fritsch, Gustav Fröhlich, Luis Trenker, Jan Kiepura, Willy Birgel, Max Reinhardt, and many others including lesser know actors. One 9 x 7" portrait photograph of Ursula Zache, the maiden name of Ursula Lohmeyer, tipped in at rear. Many of the photographs depict film scenes, respectively the actors in costumes, including a small series from The Nibelunen.

App. 10% of the postcards contain handwritten text and are postmarked. Front endpaper loose. The decorative floral-patterned framing of the postcards is colored by hand on the first page. One umbra leaf with one photograph and one postcard (signed) of actor and acting coach Ulrich von der Trenck with handwritten descriptor loosely laid in. Some wear along edges of album cover, small chips and rubbed. Some scuffing on covers. Block with light age toning and occasional creasing at corners of leaves.
